Principle and Process of Acrylic Plastic Absorption Molding

In recent years, with the rapid development of the outdoor advertising industry and the price reduction of acrylic molding equipment and acrylic products, the application fields and quantity of acrylic suction marking products have increased rapidly. Nowadays, the function of acrylic suction moulding equipment is more perfect and its performance is more stable. At the same time, the production level of acrylic suction marking products is becoming higher and higher. Here we briefly introduce acrylic suction moulding.

Forming Principle

The acrylic sheet is softened at high temperature (140-180 C) by using its good hot-working formability, and then cooled (3-5 min) to normal temperature by applying certain external pressure (8-12 tons) to make it show the desired shape or writing.

Acrylic sheet (3mm or 5mm in thickness, depending on the size of characters or moulds), density plate (10-15mm in thickness, depending on the thickness of characters or moulds), wood strip (30*40mm in thickness), cold rolled sheet (0.8mm-2mm in thickness, depending on the size of characters or moulds), aluminium alloy profile, air pump/air nail gun/air nail, cutting machine, curve saw, hand drill, angle grinder, sander, manual engraving machine (double). Edge milling cutter, rounded corner cutter, V-shaped cutter, manual edge harvester (double-edged milling cutter, rounded corner cutter), semi-circular file, flat file, triangular file, abrasive cloth, hook knife, wallpaper knife, double-sided sponge, atomic ash, steel ruler, tape ruler, pencil, hot rubber gun, hot rubber rod, trichloromethane, needle tube, glass sealant gun, etc.

5. Mould Making

Material Selection: Density Plate (Die Thickness should be controlled within 3 cm in conventional moulding and word making, and Edge Width of Yin Die should not be less than 5 cm)

Yang Mould: Words or shapes that need to be displayed are commonly referred to as Yang Mould.

Yin Mould: Other parts of auxiliary performance are commonly referred to as Yin Mould.

In any case, the thickness of the negative die must be greater than that of the positive die plus acrylic sheet or the finished product of plastic absorption.

The size of the negative mould is exactly the same as that of the finished product. The size of the positive mould is equal to the size of the finished product minus twice the diameter of the carving tool.

The clearance between Yin and Yang moulds should be determined according to the thickness of acrylic sheets used, and different clearances can be controlled by choosing carving tools of different diameters. Using 3mm thickness acrylic plate to carve density board with 4mm cutter, and using 5mm thickness acrylic plate to carve density board with 6mm cutter.

The edges and corners of the moulds with a thickness of less than 2 cm need to be treated with a file and abrasive cloth after carving, so as to achieve smooth and suction moulding without cutting soft acrylic sheets; the moulds with a thickness of more than 2 cm must be machined with a manual engraving machine to install a rounded cutter after carving, and then further processed with a file and abrasive cloth.

The bottom panel and the characters are suction moulded. The characters or the moulds are nailed on the carved bottom plate mould. The holes less than 2.5mm in diameter are drilled with a hand electric drill at uniform intervals along the edges of the contact between the characters and the bottom plate. Files and abrasive cloth are further processed to make the mould according to the normal requirements.

I. Plastic Absorption Molding

3 mm acrylic board is used for the bottom panel of the lamp box with a span less than 1.2 m and a word less than 1.8 * 1.8 m; 5 mm acrylic board is used for the bottom panel of the lamp box with a span greater than 1.2 m and a word other than 1.8 * 1.8 M.

Fixation of the mould: Firstly, fix the mould or the most complex part of it on the working table of the machine with double-sided glue, then cover the gap between the mould and the mould, fix the remaining part of the mould, and finally glue all the mould to the bottom of the floating lifting plate of the machine with double-sided glue.

Blanking: The size of acrylic sheet should be 10-15 cm larger than that of the shape or character (depending on the complexity of the shape).

Sheet softening: Select the appropriate softening temperature and control the time needed for software.

Molding: Take out the softened sheet metal, start the function needed by the machine to complete the molding, cooling and finalizing after demoulding.

II. Post-processing

Edge trimming and gluing of semi-finished products to install light source lamp box seal

Enclosure: 0.8mm cold-tied plate is used as the edge for lamp boxes with a span less than 1.2m and a character less than 1.0*1.0m. 1.0 mm cold-binding plate is used as base plate; 1.0 * 1.0 m - - 1.8 * 1.8 m and 1.2 m - - 1.5 m lamp box is used as edge.  1.5mm cold-binding plate is used as the base plate; 1.8*1.8m above word and 1.5m span lamp box is used 1.5mm cold-binding plate as the vertical edge, 2.0m cold-binding plate as the base plate; after the welding between the base plate and the vertical edge is completed, spray paint or paint treatment is carried out, and the vertical edge height is generally 8-12cm. Aluminum alloy profiles can be used as the side frame for the double-sided lamp box.

Semi-finished trimming: double-edged milling cutter installed on the manual engraving machine to complete;

Bonding: The words or shapes are bonded to the bottom panel by trichloromethane and hot glue gun.

Light source: fluorescent lamp source is highly stable, suitable for large-scale light-emitting words and light boxes; neon lamp has the advantages of strong light penetration, but its maintenance rate is relatively high, suitable for medium-sized light-emitting words and signs; LED cold light source is the mainstream of current light-emitting words, mainly because LED is a cold light source of 12 volts low-voltage electricity, its greatest advantage is energy saving, durability, low maintenance rate, applicable standard. Wide range, mostly for small and medium-sized light-emitting characters, signs.

Lamp box seal: It is finished by glass seal.
